Membership Update – Finance, Governance, and Community Action
Dear Members,
This week, we began the hard but necessary work of stabilizing and rebuilding the Albuquerque Social Club. I want to share updates from both the Finance Committee and the broader community efforts underway.
Finance Committee
On Monday at 6:00 PM, the Finance Committee began reviewing checks written, scanning paperwork into QuickBooks, and attaching invoices where possible. The group will continue to meet on Mondays and take shifts as needed throughout the week. To ensure accuracy and accountability, I have put a strict audit process in place:
All data entered into the system must go through a three-person review.
Work is only performed under my supervision, or another Finance Working Group lead.
All committee members are under a strict NDA and cannot share details unless I, Joshua Billiter, make them public with the current working group.
I will continue to make our findings transparent as we build a complete financial picture. Yesterday, I submitted the initial reinstatement request for our nonprofit status. Once our books are reconciled, we will amend and refile as needed. Our next critical step will be renewing the Club’s liquor license as quickly as possible.
Staffing Update: We are currently going to furlough the staff starting September 22nd. The furlough will be for 90 days or less, depending on how fast we can get the organization back into stability. If you are a bartender and willing to volunteer and work for tips, please email GM@abqsocial.org with your resume and the days you can work.
Community Mobilization
We have a great deal of development work ahead to raise funds and create new revenue streams. The Save the Soch group has mobilized, already brainstorming ideas and beginning to organize efforts.
Volunteers who have stepped forward are engaged across several areas, and I am working on a high-level directional plan to guide next steps. It will be up to the committees to take that framework, brainstorm, and move initiatives forward. These committees include:
Governance: Ensuring our structures and policies are strong and transparent.
Programming: Planning and marketing events, shows, and activities that build community and generate revenue.
Operations: Strengthening day-to-day management and support systems.
Development: Exploring fundraising strategies, partnerships, and sustainable income streams.

Project Tracking Page: The working group and I will be sending updates like these almost weekly, and the day-to-day tracker will be on the website. We have also started an ASC board Instagram account where we will be posting the milestones of the tracker and giving short updates. Feel free to follow here: https://www.instagram.com/abqsocialclubboard/
Gratitude
I want to thank everyone who has given their time, talent, and treasure during this time and throughout the Club’s history. We are in this together, and it will take all of us to secure the Soch’s future.
I will continue to keep the membership informed as soon as we receive word on nonprofit reinstatement and as other milestones are reached.
In the meantime, we have two main sources for collecting donations to help us clear the debts the club has inherited over the last few years:
GoFundMe: Save the Soch (Help cover operational loans, staff back pay, and miscellaneous debts)
DonorBox: ASCIP-Sponsored Save the Soch: Repairs and Back Rent Fund (Tax-deductible)
In solidarity,
Joshua Billiter
